Our club was this year’s host to the U.S. Jr. Women’s Doublehanded National Championship, competing for the Ida Lewis Trophy.
As a national event host SYC transformed our club and community into race HQ for the 66 competitors comprised of the top racers in the nation among US Jr. women sailors.
SYC member Melissa Mooney stepped up to serve as Regatta Chair for what was the biggest racing event at the club since we raced the America’s Cup boats in 2002 and 03.
An overwhelming response from our membership made this event a big success as people volunteered to serve in many different capacities. These included housing hosts, boat support both on and off the water, transportation, race committee, safety, food, entertainment and numerous sponsors who contributed goods, services and money to the event.
In all, more than 200 people stepped up to help out wherever help was needed.
To see real testimony to what a great event this was, watch the video, produced by member Bruce Hamady, that includes some interviews with the competitors
